Show Transcript Welcome to our new family orientation series uniforms and dress code video for the 2025 2026 school year why do we have a uniform or dress code at access International Academy the purpose of the uniform or dress code at axis is to keep the focus on learning and off of what we are wearing our school is more socioeconomically diverse than lots of schools around us uniform clothing help eliminate sorting others based on what they wear or can afford to wear curious about more of the research on this please feel free to contact our co-founder Carrie Anne karco she'd love to tell you about all the readings she's done on this time topic so let's talk about the basics of our dress code of access students are allowed to wear Polo shirts in non- logoed solid red white blue black grey and pink they can also wear Polo dresses in non logoed solid red white blue black grey or pink pants shorts skirts or squirts are also acceptable on the bottom in solid khaki navy blue black and gray students may also wear Jumpers in solid khaki or navy blue Peter Pan collars are allowed and will have an example of what a Peter Pan collar is in a few slides uh students are also allowed to wear leggings beneath dresses skirts or Jumpers in solid red white blue black grey or pink and by the way in this context blue means all colors of blue you can choose whether that's light blue navy blue cobalt blue any blue works for the dress code here are some examples that work with our dress code so here you see Polo shirts pants in khaki and navy blue also it doesn't matter if pants have an elastic waist that is just fine we don't require students to wear a belt also girls are able to wear the polo dresses just like you see in the middle of so more about the dress code any sweaters sweatshirts jackets pullovers or Cardigans that are going to be worn inside or in the classroom need to also be non those solid red white blue black grey or pink backpacks lunchboxes and any coats worn Outdoors don't need to follow these dress code guidelines so if as soon as wearing a jacket outside it doesn't need to follow that non logoed uh color pattern students may be asked by their classroom teachers to remove any jewelry or any other clothing or hair accessory that's causing a distraction in the classroom again the whole purpose of a uniform or dress code access is to minimize distractions keep the focus on learning if your feeling needs help purchasing you uniforms please contact the main office at school you can email us at info accesscorp we don't want um purchasing to be a barrier for any families or students so please contact us if you're struggling um or even if you just need recommendations of where to find uniforms so frequent question we are asked is if Peter Pan collars are okay so not everybody knows what a Peter Pan collar is on the left hand side that is an example of a dress with a Peter Pan collar so that is totally fine um on the right right hand side you will see denims denim or jean pants are not allowed even if they are navy blue they are not allowed as part of our dress code so please know denim pants so Footwear and headwear students had access must wear school shoes to school all shoes must be closed towed so sandals are a no unless they're like kings where they have a closed toe over the students toes this is for everybody's safety on the playground in gym class even in the classroom books fall kids need to have closed toed shoes to keep those little toes safe headbands and bows of all colors and patterns are allowed access animal ears or costume head pieces are not permitted students are not permitted to wear hats or sweatshirts with hoods up while inside our school building during recess students are welcome to wear hats or hoods for Sun inclement weather a few tips from our current parents leggings and long sleeve shirts underneath dresses or short sleeve polos can extend clothing into chili winter months and avoid having to buy all new clothes if your student is getting taller than they are wide look for pants with adjustable waist buttons this you can search online it's available from multiple stores darker colored uniform shirts for example navy blue black and gray do not show stains as easily this is more important for some kids than others please look for pants with reinforced knees that can be really critical especially if you have a very active child who's prone to tearing clothing so uniform Exchange students grow quickly many access families drop off Gently Loved school uniforms their students have outgrown throughout the school year we have a uniform Exchange event a few times during the school year during all school events those are completely free to participate you do not have to bring clothing to walk away with clothing really the idea is just to connect people with clothing that fits their students so that we can all save a little money and make sure closed don't go to waste our first uniform exchange of the year will be at the sweet start to school social on the evening of August 7th check out the event map when you arrive and head to the uniform exchange table to see if there's any clothing that fits your student we also have a uniform swap Facebook page associated with access parents can join that and get more information you can find a link to that Facebook group on the new family QuickStart web page lastly if frequently asked questions about uniforms is there a specific store or vendor I need to buy access uniforms from know we encourage families to buy uniform clothes from any place that fits their budget we do have storefronts with French toast and Lands End um where you can purchase items get our School logo on them which is allowed um and make a little money for the school but by no means do you need to do that um what if my child struggles with collars or certain clothing materials are teaching and admin team is really happy to work with families of students who may have sensory struggles with clothing this can be really common for younger students um an example of this in the past students who are really can't tolerate wearing a collar so instead they've modified the uniform they're still wearing a plain color non- logoed shirt in the uniform colors just without a collar so please contact your classroom teacher Within individual questions and they'll help you work with our administrative team what happens if my student comes in non-uniform clothing we would always rather have your student come to school no matter what they're wearing and some days especially with those little ones it may just not be happening to where the uniform please don't keep them home from school your students teacher may choose not to give the class the positive behavior point for uniforms for the day uh they will not do it in a way that embarrasses your student uh in you might receive an email from our administrative team or teacher if your student repeatedly shows up not in uniform um ultimately we are asking for your respect and cooperation as a family and following our community's dress code for all the reasons that we've talked about in this presentation if you have any further questions about the dress code or uniforms please feel free to email us at info at access colorado.org or call the school directly and we're happy to talk more about that with you thank you
