21-22 School Year Staffing

Hello AXIS Families! 
 
We are excited about the upcoming school year, and we hope you are too. Here we share the staffing updates for next school year. 
 
We say thank you and farewell to Ms. Deanna Mae, Mrs. Emily Hill, and Ms. Lauren Erxleben. We are very grateful for your dedication this year! We also bid farewell and bon voyage to Mrs. Thompson and her family as they move back to California. We have enjoyed having Mrs. T and her wonderful children as part of our AXIS family. We hope they all keep in touch, and we wish them all the best!
 
We welcome a few new-to-AXIS teachers!
bouchelleMichelle Bouchell will teach Kinder and 1st Grade English at AXIS. She graduated with her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia State University. She holds her teaching certification in both Georgia and Colorado, and she has special endorsements in Gifted education and Teaching English as a Foreign Language. After college she taught preschool in Thailand for a year, taught at an elementary school in Georgia for two years, and taught preschool and elementary for three years in Denver. Welcome, Michelle! 
KatyKaty Burkhart will teach Kinder and 1st grade English at AXIS. Katy is a Colorado native. She graduated with her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Colorado. She received her Master's degree in Education in International Teaching from Framingham State University. She holds a Colorado state professional teaching license. She has taught elementary students across a variety of locations: in Mexico, in a Native American community in Alaska, and in Colorado. She was a preschool teacher prior to teaching elementary-aged students. Welcome, Katy!   
ThomasThomas Viney will be teaching 2nd grade and 5th grade at AXIS. Thomas is a Fort Collins native and son of teachers. He graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with his Bachelor's degree in English Literature. He holds a Colorado state teaching license, and he is a recent graduate of CSU where he completed his Master's degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. It is during this program that he learned about AXIS from a classmate - Madame Manon's husband! In between his undergraduate and graduate work he taught in China, twice for a total of four years, and he learned to speak Mandarin at a novice level. Welcome, Thomas!     
ElsaElsa Martin will be teaching 1st grade and 2nd/3rd grade French at AXIS. Elsa is a French native. She graduated from University Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France with her Bachelor's Degree in Primary School, although she started out as a science major before deciding to follow her heart to education. Both of her parents are teachers in France. She completed her Master's degree in Teaching Abroad at ESPE Saint Agne in Toulouse. During this time she also studied abroad in Minnesota where she interned at the Normandale French Immersion School in Edina. After her graduate studies she taught elementary students for two years at the French School of Seychelles in Victoria, Seychelles. This school is part of the French network of private international French schools. Welcome, Elsa!
SusanaSusana Rodrigo Simon will be teaching 2nd and 4th/5th grade Spanish at AXIS. Susana is from Madrid, Spain, and she is a participant in the Spanish Visiting Teachers Program. This is a wonderful program that facilitates a language and cultural exchange between the US/Colorado and Spain. She and her husband plan to live and teach in the US for a few years, and share their language and culture. Her husband, Jose Antonio, will be teaching at a middle school in the Thompson School District. She has been teaching for 20 years and has taught all subjects to grades kinder through 4th grade. She possesses two Bachelor's degrees in Foreign Language teaching and Elementary Education. Her Master's degree is in quality management for educational centers. She also has experience and a special interest in working with students with learning differences. Welcome, Susana!
Some of our AXIS Team will be changing roles!
 
Ms. Angie Collums will continue to support AXIS administration, and she will put her music teacher credential to good use as our AXIS music teacher!
 
Mr. Nathan will add the role of PE teacher in addition to after care teacher!
